A Transformative Parenting Mediation Model with Wayne Plenert – 1-Hour Webinar and Video – April 25, 2017

Virtual Mediation Lab, an online mediation project sponsored by ACR Hawaii, and Mediate BC, a not-for-profit organization that leads, promotes and facilitates mediation and other collaborative dispute resolution processes throughout the province of British Columbia, Canada, present:

A TRANSFORMATIVE PARENTING MEDIATION MODEL
Free Webinar with Wayne Plenert – April 25, 2017
1-Hour Video Recording

ABOUT WAYNE PLENERT

Wayne Plenert is a retired lawyer who mediates, now as a mentor, and who teaches mediation and interpersonal conflict (family dynamics). He obtained his Masters of Law (ADR) in 2002. Since then he has looked for ways in which the theories of ADR can be implemented in practice. Also, he has been active in mediation development in British Columbia. He was president of the BC Mediator Roster Society when it merged as a founding partner of Mediate BC Society. He was very involved in Mediate BC’s Roster Committee, and with efforts at designing and improving ADR programs.

At present, he is leading the “Northern Navigator” project, a pilot family assessment/probable mediation program in the Peace River Provincial Courts of northeastern British Columbia. He enjoys his garden railway, his wife’s garden, a small Anabaptist church in Dawson Creek BC, and he loves the mediation community.

WEBINAR DESCRIPTION

This webinar was intended for parenting mediators who are looking for connections between practice and theory. They learned how to:

  • Explore how children are players (forming a conflict triangle) in the dysfunctional relationship of separated parents.
  • Examine how there can no truce until this triangle is recognized and addressed.
  • Consider how the presenting conflicts of the parents are opportunities for developing this truce and then building a model by which children can thrive in their separated environment (taken from John Paul Lederach’s Transformative Conflict approach).

The Transformative Parenting Mediation Model recognizes the identity of the players; the need for developing trust and a new form of relationship; all on a platform based on Isolina Ricci’s Mom’s House, Dad’s House model. You will walk through the steps that Wayne Plenert has developed in applying this approach and that are set out in his paper (in pdf format) A Transformative Parenting Model

WEBINAR OBJECTIVES

  • Introducing a new and different model of parenting mediation in which mediators can guide parents from a place of dysfunction to a truce, and then where they are interested, to where their children can thrive and can get the best that each parent has to offer.
  • Outlining for mediators why parenting after separation so often fails to find a path to this outcome.
  • Providing some theories and practical guidance on how mediators can approach these concerns and opportunities.
  • A post-webinar discussion on how much mediators should guide or direct parties in their approaches to parenting differences and difficulties.

New Frontiers in Dispute Resolution: Introduction to Online Mediation – Arizona Association for Conflict Resolution – September 24, 2016

During their September 24, 2016 membership meeting held at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law – Arizona State University, members of the Arizona Association for Conflict Resolution (AACR) learned more about new frontiers in dispute resolution and saw them “in action”.

Giuseppe Leone, founder of Virtual Mediation Lab,

  • Showed them how mediators can do online what they are used to do in-person: joint and private meetings with the parties, information (e.g. pictures, pdf documents, worksheets, videos) sharing and annotation, writing up the parties’ “Memorandum of Understanding” or agenda for their next meeting.
  • Explained the benefits of online mediation; how to blend face-to-face and online mediation; how mediators can add online mediation to their practice, in order to offer their services outside their city, state or country.
  • Shared a 7-min video of an online mediation simulation run with two AACR members (Catherine Tornbom and Larrry Schwartz) and an Arizona State University student (Kenton Arbon).
  • Gave AACR members in the audience the opportunity to ask Catherine, Larry and Kenton any questions about their first experience with online mediation.
  • Answered several questions about online mediation.

Here is the 80-min video recording of Giuseppe Leone’s presentation and what AACR board member Kate Otting wrote him after their membership meeting.

~~~
Giuseppe:
I cannot begin to thank you. Your presentation was a hit. I’m grateful as well to Catherine, Larry and Kenton, for their willingness to take part in the simulation. I’m going to add both videos to our website for members.
AACR members ended up talking for a few more minutes after you signed off, sharing their excitement about your presentation and what we’ve all learned about ODR from you. I appreciate not only for what you’ve done for AACR, but for what you have done to advance our field.
Warmest regards,
Kate
Online Mediation – How It Works and How It Can Benefit Young Mediators – June 8, 2016 Virtual Mediation Lab Webinar
Online Mediation for Young Mediators OK
The Young Mediators Group is a UK-based organization “for people from all professions and walks of life who are new to, and have an interest in, mediation”.
Wednesday, June 8, 2016 its members will participate in a 1-hour webinar titled “Online Mediation – How It Works and How It Can Benefit Young Mediators” presented by Giuseppe Leone, founder of Virtual Mediation Lab.
In order to make this event as useful as possible, it consists of 2 parts.
Part 1 – Introduction to Online Mediation
Giuseppe will explain and demonstrate what online mediation means, how it works, and how it can benefit Young Mediators who are interested to add online mediation to their practice, blend online and face-to-face mediation, or launch a new online mediation business.
Part 2 – Experience of Three Young Mediators Who Participated in an Online Mediation for the First Time
On May 30, 2016 three Young Mediators – Callum, Emma and Jemima – participated in a 1-hour online mediation simulation of a workplace case set up and video recorded by Giuseppe. Callum played the mediator’s role, Emma and Jemima the role of the parties.
During the webinar, attendees will first watch a 3-min video clip of that simulation (later they will also receive the link to the 1-hour video recording of the entire simulation). Next, they can ask Callum, Emma and Jemima any questions about their first experience participating in an online mediation. For example, from Callum’s perspective, if that mediation had taken place face-to-face in his office, would he have done anything different than what he did online? And how did the online environment affect the parties’ behavior, the way they communicated and made decisions together?
This webinar is for Young Mediators Group members only. To join their organization and attend this webinar, contact Young Mediators directly
Training in Online Mediation
If you are a family, workplace or commercial mediator, you can now learn in 2-hours how to add online mediation to your practice and blend face-to-face and online mediation
Seeking Professional Internet Marketing Consultants for Mediators
Internet Marketing for Mediators
Most mediators who attend the Virtual Mediation Lab (VML) 2-hour training in online mediation and participate in free simulations of commercial, family and workplace cases get excited at the prospect of launching an online mediation business. They love the idea of offering their mediation services outside their city, state or country.
All the basic ingredients to be successful seem to be there: their competence as mediators, their confidence that the online video technology they learned to use during our training works great, and their enthusiasm.
There is only one (big) ingredient missing: Internet marketing.
Many mediators don’t know how to market their services on the Internet. In other words, they don’t know what to do to make sure that when people enter on their PC, iPad or iPhone keywords like: “online mediation”, “divorce mediation”, “workplace dispute”, “small business dispute”, “homeowner contractor dispute” (in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Austin, Oklahoma City, or wherever they live), they find the mediator’s website and contact information.
That’s why VML is seeking professional Internet marketing consultants, who are willing to talk about their field and experience during a series of VML webinars for mediators from around the world.
Professional Internet marketing consultants who are interested in this new VML initiative are invited to fill out the application form below. If their application is accepted, they will receive an email within 5 business days to participate in a video conference with Giuseppe Leone, founder of Virtual Mediation Lab, in order to:
  • Present in more detail their experience and qualifications
  • Discuss the date/time, content and terms of the Virtual Mediation Lab series of webinars for mediators
