After 20 online mediation simulations via Skype conducted successfully with 21 mediators in Italy, Virtual Mediation Lab has now entered a new, USA/International phase.
Sponsored by the Association for Conflict Resolution Hawaii Chapter, the goal of our online mediation project Virtual Mediation Lab is to show how mediators all over the world can practice and improve their mediation skills by participating – with other mediators – in online mediation simulation via Skype.
On March 21, 2012 we ran our first USA/International simulation with the participation of:
- 1 Coach in Hawaii
- 2 Mediators – one in Florida and one in Massachusetts – playing the role of the parties
- 1 Mediator in Kenya, playing the role of the mediator
Simulations (60-min mediation and 30/45-min debrief) are conducted at 0700 and 1200 Hawaii Time. To convert from Hawaii Time to your time zone click here
Free Online Registration
Until the pilot project is completed, registration is FREE and open to a limited number of English-speaking mediators who (1) have attended a basic mediation training; and (2) have Skype with a fast Internet connection.
Outcome of the Pilot Project Virtual Mediation Lab
After 50 simulations — 20 already conducted in Italy and 30 to be conducted with mediators across the USA and around the world — the results of the pilot project Virtual Mediation Lab will be presented during an ACR Hawaii workshop in Honolulu to be held later this year.
PLEASE NOTE – We no longer use Skype for our Virtual Mediation Lab online mediation simulations. To learn why, sign up for our 1-hour Introduction to Online Mediation with PC Mac and Mobile Devices. One of the topics we cover during that training is “How to Choose a Video Conferencing Software for Online Mediation”.
